Amedeo Modigliani et ses amis, Palazzo Blu, Pisa, Italy

It was cold and the line was long but it was worth waiting for.
The first section of the exhibition is dedicated to Modigliani in Italy..it tell us about the beginning, the family, Livorno, the studies, the disease, the early vocation, and the difficulty to follow the rules.
Then there’s the Paris phase, that of the cultural avant-garde of the Fauves, the dissolute artist and the tombeur de femmes, during which he developed his artistic vision, strongly influenced by Cézanne …. Modigliani moved to Paris in 1906 , one year before the retrospective of Paul Cézanne, which certainly shook his sensitivity.
The choice of the artists is based on texts and testimonies that ensure the friendship or neighborhood, and the ties of artistic type with Modì. Among others…Chaim Soutine, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Fernand Léger, Maurice Utrillo, Suzanne Valadon, Raoul Dufy, Juan Gris, Gino Severini and Jacques Lipchitz, who gave us “Deathmask Modigliani” a patinated bronze realized thanks to a partial cast of the face of Modigliani procured by Kisling.

A great artist who combined in himself all the peculiarities of his Italy…a nervous, exquisite, impulsive, precious, impudent country.
